MEXICO CITY, May 2 (Xinhua) -- Tigres UANL edged toward the Liga MX semifinals on Saturday, recovering from a goal down to secure a 3-1 home win over Guadalajara in their quarterfinal first leg.
Ricardo Marin opened the scoring for the visitors with an 11th-minute strike before Jesus Angulo equalized with a close-range header on the stroke of halftime.
The hosts took the lead through Juan Brunetta's 52nd-minute goal and Diego Sanchez extended the lead shortly after with a long-range finish following a counterattack.
Guadalajara rarely threatened in the second half, failing to have a single shot on target.
The decisive second leg will be played at Guadalajara's Akron Stadium next Saturday (May 9) with the winner to meet either Cruz Azul or Atlas in the last four.
"We haven't achieved anything, it's only been 90 minutes," Tigres manager Guido Pizarro said.
"We have humility. This is a very competitive team, with clear objectives and our feet on the ground. We played a good match, the second leg is still to come and now it's time to rest and think about the next game."
In Sunday's only other fixture, two second-half goals from Christian Ebere fired Cruz Azul to a 3-2 away win over Atlas. ■
